TOYOTA GOOD FOR FOOTY RAFFLE
Fundraising · Live Now
Back in 2026, Toyota Good For Footy Raffle has been a significant fundraiser for the club since its inception.
In 2025, our club raised $17,000.
Money raised through the program is reinvested into our netball and football programs. We've seen some excitement updates this season at the club, including new equipment, such as fresh netball bibs, netballs and yellow footballs for winter training.
The great thing about the raffle is the amazing prizes to be won — including brand-new cars…the chance of winning a new car is definitely worth a ticket.

AS THE VETS GO MARCHING ON

Pressure makes diamonds. Arguably, it was no surprise to see our mighty VETS salute against Gembrook Cockatoo in a must-win affair on Friday night.
Entering the clash, Gembrook second on the ladder were seeking to tighten the screws as they charge towards finals.
In the home sheds, it was win or bow out. Our VETS have a bye in Round 9, meaning the clash against Gembrook was final H&A game of the season. Our VETS very well know that footy is about being accountable and controlling your own fate, rather than relying on results around the ground.
The first quarter went according to plan. M Wright was silky smooth in the centre, putting his head over the footy and providing run and carry. The Bloods booted three majors to lead by 13 points at the end of the first.
Gembrook clicked into gear in the second term. They limited Olinda’s centre clearances and bulked numbers along the corridor. It forced Olinda to play along the boundary, use short kicks or hopefully send it long. Olinda was unable to match Gembrook’s two goals and entered HT down by one.
The third quarter proved to be a spectacular battle. Both team’s turned the contest up a few notches. The pressure was through the roof, with neither side relenting. The away side found two of the three majors that came in the penultimate quarter. Our VETS seeking a come from behind win to book their finals berth.
A last quarter to savour it was. D Rohrmann was jumping at packs, clunking marks. The importance of the final quarter brought the exceptional skills of H Roberts at J Reid to the fore.
Aforementioned, diamonds are made under pressure. While inaccuracy struck the Brookers (kicking more behinds than goals), Rohrmann (2 goals), A Rogers (1), G Stevens (1) and N Syme (1) nailed their chances.
The visitors managed a sole goal (1.4.10) to Olinda’s 3.2.20. Our Bloods defended like warriors. D Noorda unstoppable when the game was there to be won.
When the siren sounded, relief and ecstasy. The all important four points secured. A ticket to the post-season all but snapped up.

An emotional Big George Azzam lets it all out after inspiring the Vets to an upset win over the ladder leaders.

ALL-STARS UPDATE R13: PHENOMOLLY!

The HazMatts had a massive week as skipper Matt Scharenberg returned to his League B&F winning form. He’s gone up against and beaten the best in his AFL career and in his years dominating the Outer East competition.
But he has never come up against a foe as ominous as Molly(All-Star)Howie.
Molly continues to control the 2026 All-Star competition and her BOG in C Grade helped steer her squad Molly’s Hatchetts to a win over The HazMatts by a single vote this week.
It seems she’s got some protégé’s in the Hatchets too, with sisters Sam & Natalie Daly shining in the U17s, Natalie earning a BOG against Mt Evelyn this week.
Lachie Meadows is in the squad and continually getting high in the votes and did so again on Saturday. The irony is Lach had a chance to purchase this squad on Auction night, but nervously declined and bought squad 12 The Blue Argoons instead. With the Argoons trending towards the bottom half of the All-Star table and the Hatchets up the top, we think Lachie should have a little more faith in himself next year!
The win is all the more meritorious this week considering the Women’s side had a bye and squad member (and co-owner) Kyah Barry has been in the votes most weeks this year.
While we’re talking the Women’s side, you will notice that they also own another squad regularly on the podium this year, The Nuclear Weapons. They owned the squad ET’s Aliens in 2025 that won the competition by a huge margin. This may lead you to think that the Women’s have the golden touch on Auction Night, but this year they actually bought 3 squads, the 3rd being squad 11, Chewbakkers. The Chewies look amazing on paper and are packed with Wilsons (Sky,Blair and Dylan) and skippered by reigning B&F winner Charlie Bakker. Bidding on Auction Night was fierce, and the Women’s eventually won with the massive price-tag of $850.
As they sat at their table and basked in their victory someone came up and said “ Haven’t you heard, Charlie Bakker’s not playing this year”. What even TF ?!!
So while the Women’s sit at the very top of the table this week, they also sit at the very bottom, with their squad the Chewies scoring a big fat zero votes!
The rest of the Competition should breathe a sigh of relief with the news that Molly(All-Star) is soon to leave these shores for 3 weeks. The Women’s however will be very nervous.
17-BLOODS DOMINATE FOR U18’s WHO PUSH ASIDE YARRA GLEN

Down on numbers again (17 players) the boys put in a very up and down game but came away comfortable 27-point win against Yarra Glen. When we played our style, we dominated the game but only did it for short bursts in each quarter although this was enough to give us the win.

As we saw with the special jumpers the Seniors wore it was the Indigenous Round last weekend- at Yarra Glen our boys took part in a smoking ceremony before the U/18 clash.
If we can put it together for four quarters anything is possible. Our captain Lachie Tonkin was awarded the First Nations medal for best on ground as adjudicated Yarra Glen officials. River Bellemo continued his strong season and Khevin Chumbar and Jake Boyd both hit the scoreboard for the first time this season with goals.
Pleasing to get the win before the bye weekend.P

A-GRADE NO MATCH FOR MIGHTY MT EV

In what was the theme of Saturday, Mt Ev wiped the decks.
We could never get going on Saturday. While a decent first quarter from A-Grade set a foundation to build upon, Mt Ev were impressive in the second quarter. They limited Olinda’s opportunities to pass to GA & GS. When we were able to send a pass to our goalers, Mt Ev’s defense was extraordinary.
Down by 17 goals at the main break, the home side put the jets on in the penultimate quarter and accelerated to a 28 goal buffer.
Our afternoon on the courts ended with Pringle (1 goal), B Ryan (11 goals) and E Argoon (13 goals).
C Chen is one of the best acquisitions of the comp. Another fantastic display earned her best on court for the red and white.

2009 FLAG RECOGNISED IN NEW BOOK
Author Toby Prime has launched his book “Famous Flags- Great Local Grand Finals” and the biggest chapter has been devoted to the famous OFC-Kinglake clash in 2009.
It was the year of “Black Saturday” and Kinglake FNC rallied the devastated local community and enjoyed a fairytale season that captured the imagination, and support, of a huge number of Australians.
In fact one of the TV Breakfast Shows gave the Kinglake result each Monday morning along with the AFL scores. However the standout club that season was the all conquering Olinda-Ferny Creek team which had dropped back from Div One and dominated Firsts, Reserves and U/18s (and eventually won all three flags).

Famous Flags- OFC V Kinglake in 2009 receives a big write up in the book.
17 years later it’s not easy to capture just how big this match was but PM Kevin Rudd flew down from Canberra especially for the game and Melbourne legend Jim Stynes was released from hospital so he could attend. Jim had been behind Kinglake since early April but had also been grounded by brain cancer which tragically eventually claimed his life.
Rudd visited both rooms pre match and spent the day wandering around the Woori Yallock oval with a can of VB in his hand. Yep, sounds unlikely but it was that sort of day.
All the tv news crews were there and Channel Nine actually did a live cross to it’s 6pm news from the ground.
There was a massive crowd for a Div 2 grannie, probably about 2,000 people and many of them joined in singing the National Anthem before the game.

Captain coach Mick Scott with the PM in the rooms before the Grand Final
As big as the occasion was the day belonged to the footy, and what an incredible match it turned out to be!!
OFC had lost just one game that season- and it was Kinglake who beat the Bloods Up Top by a couple of points.
Grand Final was a typical windy Spring afternoon at Woori Yallock which made it very difficult to score up the hill. Going in to the last quarter Kinglake had a three goal lead, but OFC had the wind. Both teams had kicked five goals each quarter with the wind at their backs so it was pretty clear the Lakers would need a couple of majors to win the game. Halfway thru the quarter Kinglake goaled and some OFC people began to think the unthinkable- the Bloods would lose and have to spend another season in Div Two.
In contrast the majority of the crowd, supporting Kinglake, thought the fairytale win, the victory that so many Australians craved, might actually materialise.
The Lakers still led with just a minute or two on the clock when the great Davey Noorda marked and kicked truly to get us over the line. While the Red and Whites celebrated jubilantly it was if Bambi had been sent to the abattoir because so many people were denied the happy ending they desperately wanted.
It was a truly remarkable day in the annals of local footy.
OFC | 1.2 | 6.8 | 7.10 | 12.12.84 |
Kinglake | 5.7 | 5.7 | 10.10 | 11.12.78 |
Among our best players- a young U/18 kid called Dylan Troutman- Dyl is the only member of the team still playing and he holds a special place in our memories.

B-GRADE OVERPOWERED BY ROVERS

With three victories to our B-Graders name in season 2026, the away assignment to Mt Ev was a daunting fixture.
Credit to our ladies, who while overpowered by Mt Ev’s brilliance, had their fair share of highlights.
M Grigg is a standout in B-Grade and continues to be a topic of conversation at Thursday night selection for an A-Grade spot.
A McKay is getting stronger as the season progresses.
E v Duuren continues to feature in the best players with coach D King telling us she is in terrific form and making life difficult for her opponents.
A 30 goal was not the note B-Grade necessarily desired entering the bye on. However, it was a performance that portrayed the team’s improvement since the reverse fixture.
Millie Grigg, Aleisha Mckay, Emmy van Duuren
SHARP SHOOTER MOLLY HOWIE IMPRESSED FOR C-GRADE

Juggling injuries, the player points system and availability is often mentioned in Bloodlines.
Our netballers are doing a fantastic job this season, with many playing two games on Saturday.
One of whom is M Howie. Her day started with C-Grade, where she scored 15 of our 17 goals. She outdid herself the following match, plying her trade for B-Grade and scoring 20 goals.
J Donner is another playing duel matches and relishing the opportunity to play up a grade.
A 38 goal defeat inflicted against our C-Grade before the bye.

ELECTRIC OPENING TERM FROM D-GRADE NOT ENOUGH TO STUN MT EV

Tasked with the challenge of second on the ladder, D-Grade produced a spirited effort.
Our ladies stormed out of the blocks, passing with speed and precision to target M Box for goals. Martha was in the mood, finishing the morning with 17 goals.
L Fairweather scored 7 goals and U17-star S Pringle enjoyed her time in open grade with 5 goals.
Having stunned Mt Ev with our ferociousness in the opening quarter, Mt Ev dug-in and found the breaks.
The 13 point defeat was an encouraging performance and a great reminder that if we bring our best from the start, we can match it with anyone.
Amy Clyne, Sophie Pringle, Alivia Nelson
U17’s HAVE PLENTY TO BE PROUD OF

Few things are given in life. Wins in sport rarely are.
As our U17’s have transitioned into life at OFCFNC and competing in the OEFNL, they’ve certainly transitioned well.
Many of our U17’s are throwing their hand up to play against tougher opponents in D-Grade.
On Saturday’s defeat, a 96-5 scoreline is a whack. However, it is an improvement from when the two sides first met (99-1).
Our girls and supporters were ecstatic with each of our five goals. 2 goals each to MaKaay and Pringle and 1 goal scored by Jenkin.
It was also a pleasure to have our terrific U17’s join us at Thursday night dinner last week. We hope you enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Players and parents are also welcome to come into the social rooms after training for dinner, refreshments, team selections and Thursday night AFL on the telly.

OEFNL 2026 WOMEN’S FOOTY GATHER ROUND

In Round 14, Saturday July 18th, all 7 senior women’s matches will take place at Rob Porter Recreation Reserve in Officer. This full day showcase of women’s football will put a spotlight on the quality of competition in OEFN Senior Women’s Divisions, with all games filmed and two games livestreamed with commentary. All participating sides will also be provided with stats from their game, thanks to Premier Data.
The first games kick off at 10:20am. With supporting resources available for female coaches, volunteers and players, there is plenty to see and do beyond your own club’s game. We welcome everyone to come along and celebrate the strong women competing in the Outer East community.

OEFNL has been asking player’s a few fun questions. O ‘The Weapon’ Edwards represented Olinda.
SENIORS SWITCH ON TOO LATE

Over the last decade OFC has enjoyed a strong win-loss ratio over Mt Evelyn, but fair to say even when we have been travelling well The Rovers have caused some major grief.
Think back a few years ago to Ginko’s last season when he tweaked our game plan and they subsequently belted us Up Top. Or even last year when they rolled us at home on a miserable winter day.
So to some OFC people it wasn’t a complete shock that they took the chocolates again, although the scale of the defeat was a bit surprising. The Rovers were on fire with five goals in the first quarter (could quite easily have been six or seven- we kicked eight against them in the first Q on the small Mt E ground last year).
They slammed on another five goals in the third quarter and it looked like we were going to be sent back up the hill with our pants pulled down. But four goals in a 10 minute blitz in the last quarter had quietened an otherwise boisterous Rover crowd as we closed to within a couple of kicks of them. To their credit Mt E steadied with two of their own while we kicked a string of behinds.
Two things in particular stood out to us, firstly the number of turnovers coming out of defence as we tried to bring the ball back through the corridor. Was it four goals from turnovers?
Secondly we succumbed too easily to a bit of niggle, that cost us two more goals. As someone once said (I think it was Jason Akermanis after the 2004 Grand Final) “its aways the retaliator who gets caught”.
That was six goals from virtual “gimmes”.
We also have to factor in that if we meet the Rovers again in September it’ll be on a bigger ground, which will favour our young team.
Not sure where to start with some take aways when we lost three of the four quarters but here goes:
-Lachie Taylor, when all else was falling apart the skipper worked his butt off providing a target. He was dominant, and at times spectacular, in the last quarter.
- when Shep played closer to goal as an offensive threat in the final quarter it really stretched the Mt Ev defence, particularly when you’ve got a third marking tall (Noah) lurking closer to goals. BTW folks did Shep turn the ball over at all (by hand or foot)? I think not. What a pleasure to watch him in action.
- veterans Cal Beattie and Lachie Meadows held the backline together, while Dyl Troutman provided plenty of tactical skill. Jonty also stepped up. However it’s clear we miss Kelse’s poise and strength and Blair’s all round ability (he’s the complete package) in defence. We’ve leaked 40 goals in the last three matches – yep it was against two of the top teams, but that’s the point of the argument.
- Percy. Each week we include his name and don’t need to elaborate but how about those two precisely judged and perfectly executed goals??
- Frankie also stood tall with his clean hands and accurate disposal.
- here’s a few thoughts about some blokes not included in the best- Jwol is the beating heart of the team and his presence at the coal face is inspirational. Gia- his bigger body was invaluable in some of the clashes. Tyler-it’s not easy being parachuted in for a game, we get that, but his strength and run could be a massive asset in September.
So we have a week off before we face our old foes Woori “Up Top”. This is a match not to miss folks!!! Make sure you come along folks.

A SOBERING SATURDAY

Some people will jump on me for saying this, but the Mt Evelyn clash was the match we needed.
After taking all before us over the last month it was a chance to measure ourselves against the undefeated ladder leader. Could we take one more step and challenge the side that has proven invincible? In short the answer was a clear “nope”.
If there’s an upside to a 13 goal loss it’s the fact that their points score (107) was about 20 under their average for the season. Or about three and a bit goals.
In that sense it could have been worse, but gees that’s a very small upside isn’t it?
Our problem is scoring goals, or at the very least forcing turnovers or ball-ups inside our forward 50. After 13 rounds of footy guess how many times have we kicked more than nine goals? Twice, and once, against Wandin, that was partly because Keegs ran amok.

Young ruckman Kit Sutton sends a ball into attack- Kit’s ruck work has been strong for some time now but his around the ground marking is really starting to be noticed.
OK here’s some take-aways:
Bloodlines is going out on a limb here but having watched just about every Twos match for the last five years this was the best game we’ve seen Noodle ever play. He was sensational, didn’t know he could mark a ball like that!
Youngsters Bon Sullivan and Campbell Hutchins were probably our best. Encouragingly they stood up in our most physical encounter of the year. Cam also took the mark of the day (that includes the Senior game). We are glad we aren’t being asked to decide which one gets elevated when there’s a vacancy in the Seniors.
Cass was again among our best, but surely grandparents Marg and Keith are travelling well enough to buy the lad a bigger pair of shorts?
Five matches to go and we are really starting to enjoy our Ressies footy- bring it on guys!!!

CHANGE OF TRACKS

Mitch Low and P Lucas have the ball to serve.
In a welcomed change of regime, our footballers enjoyed the challenge of pickleball on Tuesday night at the State Pickleball Centre.
Pickleball has rapidly grown popularity, mainly thanks to the cash injection its competitions have enjoyed.
The lads enjoyed the night. Many thanks to coach D Wilson for booking the courts and organising an exciting Tuesday night.
JOSH WALLIS 250 GAMES CELEBRATION MATCH

Josh ‘Wowie’ Wallis is the spiritual leader of our club. For many seasons, he’s been the heartbeat.
Words simply do not do justice for the incredible player and man that Josh is.
In R18 last season, Wowie notched game #200 in Senior football. It was a special day, as the Bloods rallied around their leader, secured the chocolates and Wowie booted two goals. With his family, friends and former teammates cheering him on, it was a fitting day to celebrate the accomplishments of Josh.
Josh’s representation for the red and white extends beyond 1’s footy. He’s played for the Reserve’s as well, dignifying the club man he is.
Josh’s ascension through the ranks epitomises the tenacity and perseverance required, not only to make it at Senior level, but to thrive, excel and dominate.
In 2009 & 2010, Wowie stepped up from junior level to the U18 program. Supporters, coaches and players knew we had a potential gun on our hands. What an excellent player he’s been and continues to be.
Since those U18 seasons, Wowie has been a force to be reckoned with. Oppositions lose sleep about how to handle his height, strength, hardness and all-round presence. There have been countless occassions where opponents have shook Wowie’s hand post-game, mentioned that he’s unstoppable and they don’t look forward to facing him again.
Around 40 games (we need to confirm this) of Josh’s time at Olinda Ferny Creek have come in the 2’s. Josh epitomises the essence of a club man. He gives his all, lifts his teammates up and fights until the final siren.
On-field, where do we begin singing the praises!? Josh is unrelenting. His work rate is second-to-none. Every stoppage. Every contest. No matter where on the ground he was, he gets there.
Every big hit, Wowie stands up. He demands the most out of his teammates and leads by example. Truly, actions speak louder than words.
Josh gives his teammates first use of possession with his hitouts to advantage. Defensively, he sets the tone. Whether it’s running back with the flight to take intercept marks, tackles, smothers, bumps. He does it all. Offensively, he’s pretty handy too. Not too many ruckman are versatile. We have the joy of being able to swing Wowie forward, where he’s reliable for goals.
At training, Josh is doing extras. Sprints. Distance running. Gym work. He’s always finding ways to improve himself.
Off-field, Josh’s support is immense. He cheers on our U18’s, Ressies, Senior Women and netballers. You’ll spot Josh at the quarter-time huddles, offering his advice. Josh is committed to every player deriving the best of themselves.
Many at the club are fortunate to consider Josh a mate and for some, a best-mate. Club’s are better places for people like Josh, but Wowie stands in rare air. OFCFNC is grateful for all this fine man has given and will continue to give our wonderful club.
In honour of Josh’s milestone 250 games across 1’s and 2’s, we’ll be recognising this achievement at home against Woori. Come and support one of our clubs greats against one our fiercest rivals.
